It can be very stressful and painful when someone retires. What we should do is to try and make them feel as comfortable as possible..

Topic : Jane asked us...

We offer you all of our best in this holiday season, and hope to pass
along some information that will assist you.

First of all, you need to investigative senior care services.  We
are affiliated with one of the best, and you can find out more at our
website here about how they can help your mother:

http://freeseniorcitizenssolutions.com/independent-living/185-sitter-city/849-sitter-city.html

Also, a Medical Alert system will allow you to have the peace-of-mind
so that if Mom falls again, she can get help at the push of a button.

We have found a company that will give you a system absolutely
free.  It costs $29.95 a month for the monitoring but there are
absolutely no upfront fees.  Click here to go to their website.

And as for your other inquiries, the best place to start is with your mother's local
Office of the Aging.  Each county in the country has an office like this that will
provide day services, transportation, and other needs for your Mom.  If you have problems
locating one for your Mom, send me her address and the county she lives in and I will get
you the information you need.

We hope this helps and wish you all the best.  Please let us know how you made out and if
we can assist you further.

Warm Regards,

I am looking for one-stop assistance for my mother, 86, lives on her own and is very stubborn about moving into assisted living.

Her social security is not enough to support her.

She has fallen several times, I suspect she hurt herself, but will not see a doctor for fear of being taken out of her home.

Her heating, insulation costs are too high.

She needs assistance getting chores done but cannot afford it.

I live 2 hours away.

I found out (she will only tell me) that she fell at home at night, could not get up, and slept in the hallway. I am very concerned.

She has not had a new mattress in ages and can't afford one, I suspect she doesn't sleep right, is there any way to get one?

How can I get her to cooperate?

I suspect she may not be taking her medications properly, all of a sudden she seems out of it.

I know this is a lot to ask, but I am a patient navigator for mental health and I know how organizations like yours can help work through the maze of information out there.

I live in Pennsylvania.

Thank you,

Jane

Forum : Shower Grab Bars
Topic : Charles asked us...

The simplest way is call the management company of the apartment you live in and ask them
to explain the cause of the delay.  Explain the situation and ask them to expedite the
request being that you have been waiting for three weeks.

I would also follow this up with a registered letter explaining the situation.  Put in
the letter that you have made repeated requests and that management has not followed
through on their obligation to install the shower grab. Most importantly, point out that this is a safety issue and they are not following through on their obligation to install the shower grab that you purchased.

By sending the letter registered, which they have to sign for, you are also establishing
a 'paper trail', and when the management company receives the letter, they will realize
this as well.  This should clear up the problem.

If it doesn't, you are going to have to read the terms of conditions of your lease to
determine exactly what your recourse would be.  I cannot advise you here, as I am not an
attorney but would recommend that you seek the advice of an attorney should you need to
pursue the matter further.

I am including some resources from our website which can help you receive free legal
advice if you need it:

This question isn't the easiest to answer because we don't know where these people are located (when you ask us questions, a location would be of great assistance to us in answering the question properly).

But based on the information provided, the best place to start is with your Congressional representative..  They have staffs that help their constituents with these issues.  You can reach your Representative by clicking here.

Gifts promote a special kind of bonding between the giver and the receiver. It does not matter what you give, but what does matter is the emotional quotient behind a gift and the occasion.

There are several factors that help making a gift truly unique and as people say the beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder same holds true for the gifts also meaning that choose a unique gift keeping in mind what the personality of the person of the gift recipient is , what the like and dislikes of the person are and what hobbies and interests that person has.

[admin 2009-07-21 04:49:34]:We marched as a group. We protested as a group. And we changed the world as a group. This is a group effort. We are asking you to join us in making our generation the most informed group ever to stay in touch with the times. There is no reason to stop now. So let’s work together, as a group, to change the world once again. In order to do this, we need to stay connected and stay informed on what is important to us. This is why http://www.FreeSeniorCitizensSolutions.com has created a bulletin board so that our group members can reach out to each other. We used to have certain newspapers announcing rallies and concerts in the 60’s. That was how we gathered to exchange ideas then. So I came up with a new way to gather and exchange ideas, the way we did back in the 60’s. Our gathering place, located at http://freeseniorcitizenssolutions.com/senior-citizen-forum/view-topiclist.html combines all the things we used to talk about and all the things we need to talk about to make the next 50 years as exciting as the last 50 years. Please come join with me, march with me, sing with me, dance with me. And let’s bring back the same feelings we had when we did it the first time. For me, the lame part of the Sixties was the political part, the social part. The real part was the spiritual part—Jerry Garcia

I found one of the most unique ideas for giving a gift that I have ever seen.  It is at TenMillionDollarSweetheart.com.

The owner has created a Tribute website, and I am pleased to have purchased one for my wife.

In all the years I have been married, I have given many gifts to her as a sign of my love, but so many of these gifts are no longer with her.  Not only did she love the tribute, but this gift will last.

Topic : A New Take On The Health Care Debate

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you realize that there is a major debate regarding health care in this country. And while everyone is putting their ‘two cents’ into the debate regarding Medicare, Medicaid and Tort Reform, we feel that there is one topic that isn’t being adequately addressed.

This is the fact that we all need to take personal responsibility for our health.

Our society is the richest and most prosperous in the history of the world, and as a result the ‘affluent’ diseases of coronary artery disease, obesity, diabetes and cancer have far more prevalence in our society than in other areas of the world. These diseases, which are for the most part lifestyle motivated, cost the US health care system tens of billions of year. This is wasted money, as the diseases are so easily preventable before they occur.

If we take personal responsibility for our health, stay active and eat right, these diseases of affluence would be greatly reduced in this country, and as a result billions of dollars would be saved.

So in the debate regarding health care, would we be better to focus on the prevention of disease and wellness campaigns to get people in better shape so that these diseases would be reduced in our society? Your thoughts and feedback would be appreciated.

Topic : My Reflections

The other day while relaxing I started reflecting on the almost six decades that I have lived through.  From what I remember of my first ten years, life was all very new and exciting.  Everything I saw and did was a new learning experience.  When I reached ten years of age, I felt like I was a grown up and a very important person.  During my second ten years of life, I met many new people. And was able to make more of my own decisions and to interact with many of my newfound friends.

At the age of 20, I was a grown up.  At this point, I had been in the military and I was married to the most wonderful girl in the world.  Life was bringing me new challenges and new learning experiences all the time.  And with it, I was still amazed by the world around me.  No question about it, at this point I was finally an adult.

My third decade was amazing.  My two wonderful boys were born and my life really changed.  I now had a great responsibility, caring for them and I started to think of something I never had thought of before, the future.  I was all grown up but still learning. I had now reached my fourth decade.  And was even given a party for doing so…WOW.

To say that I was working hard was putting it mildly.  If my memory serves me correctly, I spent more time working than being at home.  My sons went through college and to say I was proud of them is not enough; I was in heaven.  During this time a great new lesson was learned:  how to love your family more than yourself.  Now I was a full fledged grown man. To my utter astonishment, I woke one day and I was in my fifth decade.  Could this possible be?

My sons were married and the family was growing. During this time, I was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren.  Being a grandparent is one of the most wonderful experiences that life has to offer.  I am still amazed by life and continue to learn every day. I hope to be able to continue my journey into the future and report back my experiences. What I have definitely figured out is that without the wonderful girl I married 39 years ago I would never have gotten this far.  I will always love you B.

Warm Regards,

Topic : How as baby boomers willwe change the future?

One of the unfortunate realities of the Boomer generation is that we're terribly underfunded for retirement. The Employee Benefits Research Institute does annual survey work in this area and has shown that less than 1 in 5 Boomer households has a net worth of $250,000 or more. According to Fidelity Investment hat's just about enough to pay for the out-of-pocket costs in our current Medicare system--and that's before worrying about things like food, clothing and shelter.

While people may suggest our generation was profligate, I think there are other factors at work. Ours is the first generation to be leaving the workforce without the safety net of an robust "defined benefit" pension plan. We were the "crash test dummies" for the rollout of 401(k) plans--an experiment in retirement funding now largely recognized as having failed.

As a group, we're going to be heavily dependent on society's safety net programs to avoid some pretty grim consequences. Without a robust Social Security program and a much enhanced Medicare program, millions of Boomers are going to live out their declining years in poverty. Our generation is going to need to re-discover it's roots of political activity. There are well over seventy million of us--enough to sway any election in the US for decades to come. We're going to have to come together to make sure that the inter-generational promises the US has traditionally made are kept now that its our turn to collect.

Another emailed response...

So there are really two different waves of baby boomers: 1. Those that raised Generation X who by all accounts are functioning and adapting better than any generation in history; 2. Those that raised Generation Y (and who have become known as Helicopter Parents) who coddled there youngsters like no other generation before them, and the long term impacts of that to the ability of that generation to adapt and function is still to be determined as the results to date are decidedly mixed at best.

And of course the Baby Boomers themselves have shown a profound lack of the ability to adapt. This is the generation whose parents we were so recently reminded won WWII, and then went to the moon. True the baby boomers caused great societal changes, but they all became affectionality known as the me generation and bear the brunt of responsability for loosing the Vietnam War, stagflation in the 1970's the dot com bust, the housing bust, and the current global economic meltdown. They have not adopted well to change and have fought globalization, and any other number of trends.

The truth is though in both cases until the baby boomers accept that they are now senior citizens and need to step aside and let the middle aged Gen Xers and Gen Yers who are now 10+years from college step into their roles as tomorows leaders.

Even in politics for all the "change" that Obama represents in the US he is still at the end of the day our 3rd baby boomer President and real visionary change typically comes with generational shifts.

An emailed response...we wanted you to see it

As a Gen X I have the rare distinction that my parents proceeded the Boom generation, so I was raised with a more Post-Depression mentality vs. a Post-WW2 mentality. They also didn't share in the same cultural experiences as the Boomers. However comparing the way I was raised vs my friends who's parents were a good 10 to 15 years younger there was more value put on having things, fitting in and doing things that were more fun and less contemplative.

That being said we also got to see and appreciate the End of The Cold War. If you didn't live through part of that epoch you don't understand that Gen-X has learned to deal with Game Changers early on, the rise of computers to ubiquity, television as culture, (MTV, etc.). I'm just waiting for the next change, and then the next, and the next. I do not assume the way it is today it will be tomorrow, or that it should be.

As my parents are aging, retired already, they've been planning ahead for decades because they had to deal with their parent's lack of planning. If anything it is the Boom Generation that will have to accept that generation X & Y will not be more successful/ upwardly mobile then they were, so that means it will be a bigger burden to take care of them if they have not provided for their retirement.

Topic : How as baby boomers are we changing the future?

For the better or the worse?

The following opinion is not necessarily the opinion of FreeSeniorCitizensSolutions.com

and is posted to encourage constructive debate

I'm a boomer Kim and Dietrich. Pete, Kurt and Jim, I agree. What's the solution? Lets start by taking all the future entitlements away from government, state and local employees beginning today and cutting nine out of ten of their jobs, privatize the work they have done, and/or rid the system of it completely. Health care for the elite government going forward should be no different than what the rest of the country faces. The Constitution and Bill of Rights are the only things any United States citizen is entitled to, unfortunately little is left of them, in the guise of being protected from ourselves. Education is key, look at our world ranking for K-12, destroy the teachers union and any job security, their jobs should be on the line every day just like ours, their future retirement benefits package should be non existent just like ours. Elect somebody who is talking about the next fifty years not today, and look at the numbers, and they need to make sense, it's a bitter pill, do boomers have the stomach for it? The latest Roman Empire is currently in a fast decline, is it terminal, we will all decide.

we are overlooking a huge impending group we need to reach out to. This huge group is the baby boomers with one hundred million strong.

This huge group of us needs to see how our aging at this time will affect everything in our country in the near future. I could fill a page with these effects; however it is ALL across the board. Thus I have started www.freeseniorcitizenssolutions.com and will make sure I stand up for the one largest group in our history. I believe we need a sub group to address this situation and I would love to continue my efforts. Please give me any and all of your feedback which will let me keep going on this tremendous undertaking.

Topic : Why we started this bulletin board

We marched as a group.

We at FreeSeniorCitizensSolutions are installing this bulletin board so that groups members have the ability to interact with each other in a FRIENDY, RESPECTFUL manner.  We don't want to ban anyone from the forum so if you wouldn't be comfortable saying it in front of your family, then don't do it here.  The moderators reserve the right to ban anyone who uses profanity, is vulgur, threatens another member, and so on.

So let's enjoy this bulletin board as opposed to abusing it.
